Why does Food Matter to You?

food_mattersFood does matter – whether you want to believe it or not. Every single thing you put into your mouth will have some effect on your body. It may be positive, it may be negative but in some way – each morsel of food, tablespoon of a supplement or the contents of a pill can and will change your life.

There is a movie  called Food Matters and it not only talks about the beneficial impact that organic plant based foods have on our health but also the impact of supplements, drugs and anything else that one can put inside their mouth. There is a real need of a call to action on this matter. If people just stopped and thought about what they were going to eat next or what pill they were going to pop – there could be ” an epidemic of health?” (quote from the movie). I mean what would we do if this happened. The drug and pharmaceutical companies, the hospitals, clinics and most western practitioners  would all be out of a job – if everyone was healthy. What would happen to our economy, our health care system, future generations? Well I have to tell you this if this was to ever happen (wishful thinking) then money and support would have to shift it’s direction towards farmers, sustainable communities, natural medicine and PREVENTION!

What it all comes down to really, is food and the choices we make on a daily basis. We have the ability to make the “right” choices everyday when it comes to what we eat. So from this little bit of information and a bit of a tease from the movie (if you haven’t seen it) – I am going having another contest for those of you who were part of, or aware of my other contest (My Favourite Vegetarian Meal). In this contest – I am offering you a free copy of the film FOOD MATTERS. All you need to do is tell me why food matters to you.

Real, whole foods –the kind that come from the earth, and not from a factory; the kind that our ancestors prospered on –provide the nourishment necessary to stimulate a healthy physical and emotional state of being. Food unites us, sustains us, grows us, and revitalizes us. Food is life.

Food is life, it nourishes me and makes my body healthy. I love cutting, chopping and creating life energyzing meals for my family. Nothing gives me more pleasure than creating a meal that my family enjoys. It gives them life, energy and love.
I just discovered your site today and love it. You have some great information. Thanks for sharing.

Food Matters…to me because I feel it is the building block to a healthy mind and body. Within my family there is heart disease and diabetes, knowing this, I decided a long time ago that I was going to do what I can to treat my body right (generations before did not have the wealth of information we have now). Food brings people together, food nourishes us and we should appreciate how fortunate we are to have so many wonderful, yummy whole foods available.
    Have a wonderful weekend,

I realize that Food is fuel for our bodies AND our minds. I grew up with home cooked fresh meals everyday, herbal teas that healed infections and ailments-food was connected to how your body felt and to heal it and make it better.
However, things have changed for me. It has been relegated to the last priority of what we, as a society, do with our time-at the end of a long and tiring day, who wants to slave over a stove when other cheap and easy options are available? I find myself succumbing on some days to simpler options. But we all realize that that’s not real food. The other end of the spectrum is not easy either- navigating through aisles of expensive organic foods, supplements, and often-tasteless creations. So, food is more a dilemma these days than anything else. Atleast for me it is! Cooking from scratch is time consuming and makes a mess. I also find that I spend so much time in the kitchen that I am sometimes resentful of that. And yet, I feel good when I cook from scratch-feeding my family healthy food, and hopefully keeping them away from illness and diseases like cancer. All of this is exhausting, though. Food takes up so much mind space for me- buy organic or local, frozen or fresh, supplements or not..overwhelming!

On a sep note: Thanks for the great info on your site. Inspiring!

FOOD MATTERS to me for so many reasons. Fresh, wholesome, pure, clean and tasty food not only nourishes my body, it also nourishes my mind and soul. Being able to share food with others, enjoy a simple meal or indulge in a more lavish meal, cooking with family, friends or on your own, picking a fresh herb from the garden or a warm ripe tomatoe from a vine. All these elements of food are so wonderful and must be cherished and preserved.

In todays world, these simple acts of appreciating and enjoying pure and wholesome food are rare. The disconnect between food and the health of mind, body and soul have led to many unfortunate food troubles (too many to list). We must relearn, or learn for the first time how to appreciate, respect and recognize the value of good food- FOOD really does MATTER :)
