I have written many a blog post on superfoods. There are various recipes and articles on these foods right here on my blog. That way I can provide you with as much information and ideas of how to use and consume these foods. Superfoods is such a buzz word these days, and it is important to understand why, when and how to use these foods. But the bottom line is to just get them in!
In David Wolfe’s Superfoods book he goes into detail on each of these superfoods (and so much more). So I encourage you to pick up a copy! It is a really comprehensive book as it gives you a detailed outline of how to use these foods, which are “the most nutritious foods on the planet!” David Wolfe.
Here is a mini outline of some of the top ones…
Goji Berries: Goji berries are the most nutritionally rich berry fruit on the planet. They taste delicious and are well balanced for nearly all body types. They are a complete protein source and contain nineteen different amino acids, trace minerals and vitamins. (also great for vision, libido, hormones and an incredible source of antioxidants)
Cacao: The best natural source of antioxidants, magnesium, iron, vitamin C, omega 6 – and chocolate just tastes good!
Spirulina: ancient blue-green algae that is power packed with protein and chlorophyll.
Hempseed: contain all the essential amino acids and fatty acids to maintain human life. Enough said!
Coconuts: The health benefits of coconuts is immense, that I can’t even begin to list them all in one line – but in one sentence as quoted by David Wolfe “Coconut water is the breast milk of mother earth”. That should give you an idea! (Click here for More info!)
Honey: unprocessed honey is natures richest source of live healing enzymes and one of natures sweetest treats!
Superfoods may be new to you, or they may already be a staple in your diet….either way:
Tell me which Superfoods you use, how you use them and why you love them!
If I like what you write, you may just WIN! The best answer will get a pack of Goji Berries – compliments of me!

hi there! thanks for your wonderful post on superfoods! I love reading about them because i personally have gained incredible benefits from incorporating them into my lifestyle and hope more people will start doing so as well! my favorite superfood has to be the chia seed. it’s incredibly user-friendly, has wonderful benefits for your health and is not too expensive! my favorite way to use them is to make pumpkin custard! i boil almond milk with agar agar flakes until the flakes disappear. I then add the chia seeds to the hot liquid and immediately refrigerate for at least 3 hours. the agar and chia seeds will make the liquid into this wonderfully delicious gelatinous consistency! i then take the mixture and blend it with canned pumpkin, pumpkin spice, vanilla and a dash of liquid stevia. you must try this stuff for yourself! it’s delish and so good for you! i think the reason why i love superfoods so much is that it’s not some miracle performing concotion, but guides into a higher awareness about your body and health. you’re loving your body so much more and nourishing your spirit by giving it these wonderful nutrients and that’s something that we all need more of in our busy lives
Elaine, that recipes sounds amazing! I also love how passionate you are about Chia seeds and superfoods!
Yes,the benefit of this miracle goji berries are plenty. Beside being rich in vitamin B,goji berrie help improve our immune system and nourish our blood. There are many health benefits in taking this berries, if taken regulary. And beside the health benefits, goji berries has shown to help us in losing weight!
Sudima – you are bang on. Goji’s are so full of nutrients – and make you feel great all over! What do you like to do with you goji’s? How do you eat them?
Thanks for the post. I’m a huge fan of superfoods. Though sometimes, it is funny how we don’t look at superfoods in our backyards like dandelion greens or blueberries. I really try to incorporate local as well as tropical ones into my diet.
One of my favorite recipes is from Ani Phyo. It is a pudding made with acai and banana and then topped with goji berries. I also often add hemp seeds and to smoothies or salads to get the extra protein and omegas. An example from a week or so ago that I posted to twitter is: spiralized zucchini, avocado, tomato, herbs, hemp seeds, dressed with lemon juice over greens.
Hi Jody, I totally agree. So many superfoods can be found already in our local life—almonds, tempeh, kale all kinds of greens! But for those special others, they are great to enjoy every now and then! Love Acai!
Love goji berries! I eat them everyday in the morning with my organic oatmeal mixed with blueberries and a scoop of protein powder. It may sound gross but it actually tastes really good = ). I also incorporate goji berries into my protein shake after the gym. I also tried adding spinach (saw it in one of your videos) to my shake and believe it or not i don’t taste it! Ever since i started eating goji berries on a consistent basis the energy levels have gone through the roof. The great thing about them is they can be eaten raw and pretty much mixed with anything. Great blog!
Matthew that actually sounds delicious – especially if you are using Sun Warrior Protein – and goji’s are great in a smoothie! Enjoy them!
I use lots of different superfoods, but one of my favourites is to eat a small piece of ChocoSol chocolate (made with unprocessed cacao and sometimes other superfoods like hemp).
Val- I LOVE CHOCOSOL – they use so many different superfoods in their chocolate too – coconut, hemp, maca. Such pure chocolate! Anyone reading this that has not had their chocolate, please look for it at farmers markets and other artisan retailers in Toronto! AMAZING!
I love cacao nibs on yoghurt and granola. yum! I also drink a coconut every day for the electrolytes.
The Lucky GOJI WINNER is Elaine! She gave such wonderful description of why she loves superfoods – along with a yummy recipe that I must try out!
Not to worry, I will have more contests like this, so please check in frequently – post comments and share!
